Living in Priesthill

There are a number of excellent neighbourhoods to the south of Glasgow, and Priesthill is one of the more popular. It manages to perform the difficult balancing act of being a viable suburb of a great metropolis while at the same time remaining close to wide areas of picturesque countryside. If you like to be close, but not too close, to the city, this could be the ideal place for you.

With so many flats to rent in Glasgow, many newcomers will choose to be more selective when deciding on a particular neighbourhood. Here in Priesthill, there are plenty of good options to choose from, including brand new developments of houses and apartments and a number of homes which have remained unchanged since Edwardian days.

One of the major benefits to many locals is the ease of the daily commute from here into the heart of the city. George Square, commonly regarded as the centre of Glasgow, is around six miles away from here, yet the trip remains just a 15-minute train journey. Priesthill & Darnley railway station offers direct trains to Glasgow Central throughout the day and into the evening.

There are other ways to get into the city, of course, including the number 3 bus which operates on a route from Barrhead via Priesthill and on into Glasgow's iconic centre. For motorists, the M77 motorway passes through the area on its way north to the city. It also offers speedy and convenient links to Edinburgh via the M8 and to the rest of Scotland's motorway network.

Fresh, clean air is always close by

Despite being so close to the city and all that it has to offer, anyone living in Nitshill, Priesthill or any other neighbourhood to the south of the Clyde will never be too far away from a number of green spaces. One of them, Househill Park, is especially popular during the summer months, in part because of the Levern Walkway, which passes right through it.

There are two larger expanses in the area which are worthy of further investigation. Dams to Darnley Country Park lies to the south of Priesthill while to the north you will find the rightly celebrated Pollok Country Park. As well as the fresh air and the dramatic scenery, the latter is also home to the Edwardian splendour of Pollok House and Garden.

A great selection of schools for children of all ages can be found in and around Priesthill, a fact that will undoubtedly tempt parents who are on the lookout for houses to rent in Glasgow. Darnley Primary, St Angela's RC and Gowanbank will all appeal to the younger pupils while secondary education can be found at St Paul's High School and Woodfarm High School, which is located in Thorniebank.

The area features a number of excellent healthcare facilities for local residents, with a doctor's surgery in Cowglen Road and practices to be found at Thorniebank Health Centre and, to the north, Shawlands Surgery. There are several hospitals within easy reach, including Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to the north in Govan.

All tastes catered for when you're hungry

Many of the best restaurants in Scotland are just a short train ride away in the city centre, of course, but it's worth noting that several high quality eateries can be found closer to home. Barrhead Road and the surrounding streets feature a number of dining options, not to mention a selection of takeaway shops for those evenings when all you want is a quiet night in.

If you're more likely to be working out rather than tucking in, you'll be pleased to know there are plenty of state of the art gyms and health centres to be found here. And for those who prefer to venture out in order to pound the streets, there are some excellent jogging and cycling routes in the local area, including some which incorporate the scenic beauty of the spectacular Dams to Darnley Country Park.

Priesthill is something of a hidden gem nestling peacefully among the southern suburbs of Glasgow. If you're thinking about a move to this neighbourhood it makes sense to speak to someone in the know first. Have a chat with Citylets today to find out more.
