Living in Mosspark
A pleasant neighbourhood in the south-west of the city, Mosspark offers local residents a number of high quality amenities, not to mention a great deal of convenience. From here, it's easy to get to the centre of Glasgow to the north and to idyllic open countryside to the south and the west. It's also home to a comprehensive selection of property types, enabling newcomers to find just what they need.
Mosspark has its own railway station, located just off Dundee Drive. Journey times from here to Glasgow Central are just 11 minutes. Strangely, many Mosspark residents live closer to Corkerhill station, which is to be found in Corkerhill Road, and which offers even quicker journeys (just nine minutes) to the centre of the city. Both stations are on the Paisley Canal Line.
If you prefer to travel by car, you'll have a number of options open to you. The M8 passes to the north of Mosspark on its way to the centre of Glasgow and on to the city of Edinburgh. The M77 takes motorists south to Kilmarnock and then to Stranraer. Easy links are available from this part of Glasgow to the M73, M74 and M80 motorways, as well as the A82 road.
Wide open spaces abound here in the south-west of Glasgow, with the delightful Bellahouston Park serving as a jewel in the area's crown. There are some top of the range sporting facilities to be found here in addition to a walled garden and manicured lawns. The Charles Rennie Mackintosh-inspired House for an Art Lover is a particularly impressive feature.
Get away from the city in a matter of moments
Just to the south-east of Mosspark you'll find the highly impressive Pollok Country Park, a 146-hectare oasis that has been named the best park in Britain in the past. The largest park in Glasgow, it's the perfect location for joggers, cyclists, roller-bladers and, in the summer months, sunbathers and picnickers. Properties which overlook the park are always in great demand.
With the centre of the city so close to hand, many locals will head into Glasgow for their retail therapy, of course. It's worth bearing mind, however, that a number of stores can be found closer to home. They include famous name supermarkets which are located on or near Paisley Road West to the north of the area and, to the east, in and around Pollokshaws Road.
Should you prefer shopping in the city centre, it makes sense to utilise the Park and Ride facility in Shields Road, a little to the north-east of Mosspark. Using this operation will take the headache out of trying to find somewhere to park.
Several healthcare amenities are in the area, including the Braidcraft Medical Centre in Braidcraft Road and the Cardonald Medical Centre in Paisley Road West. To the north-east, the Midlock Medical Centre in Midlock Street is another viable option. Local hospitals are plentiful, with the 1,600-bed Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to the north-west and the West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital to the north.
Oodles of possibilities for the student community
Many of the people looking for flats to rent in Glasgow are students, and for the student community Mosspark represents a tempting option. The university's main campus at Gilmorehill is less than 15 minutes away by car, so it's easily accessible. The University of Strathclyde, which is located in the city centre at Richmond Street, is also just a short car journey away.
If you're a fan of Rangers FC and you're living in Kinning Park, Pollokshields or Mosspark, you will already know that Ibrox Stadium is just a mile or so away. Celtic Park is around six miles to the east of Mosspark, while Firhill Stadium, where Partick Thistle play their home games, is five miles to the north in Maryhill. The national stadium at Hampden Park is around three miles away.
Needless to say, there are many more amenities here for those who don't want to watch the sporting action. Mosspark is a short distance from the River Clyde, where you'll find the Riverside Museum on the northern bank and the Glasgow Science Centre on the southern side. Just across the river, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is within easy reach.
Finding houses to rent in Glasgow which are close to schools is easy when you have a little expert advice to fall back on. Mosspark has its own primary school, which is located in Mosspark Square, with St Monica's and St Marnock's both close by. For older pupils, Rosshall Academy in Crookston is a popular option, as is Lourdes Secondary School in Kirriemuir Avenue.
