Living in Kelvindale
There are a number of good reasons to put down roots in the West End of Glasgow, ranging from excellent transport, healthcare and education amenities to a wonderful choice of property options. This is an area of the city that appeals to a wide cross-section of people of all ages and from all walks of life, so it comes as no surprise to discover just how sought after the local flats and houses can be.
The neighbouring district of Hillhead is home to the Gilmorehill campus of the University of Glasgow, and because of this the property scene in Kelvindale is a busy one, especially as the start of every new academic year approaches. Classes are easy to reach when all you have to do is take a short train ride or a pleasant walk along Great Western Road.
A little to the east of the university lies the very centre of the city, with its iconic landmarks, its wide streets and its familiar buildings. Getting to and from Glasgow's heart is easy from Kelvindale, thanks to a direct train route that allows for journeys of less than 20 minutes. The station is located in Cleveden Road to the north of the neighbourhood, having been opened as recently as 2005.
One of the nicest ways to pass the time in Kelvindale is by stopping for an hour at one of the many local coffee shops. Several of them are to be found on Great Western Road and Crow Road, and they provide a golden opportunity to meet up with friends or to stop awhile and take a break from the shopping. Of course, there are a number of excellent bars and restaurants throughout the area as well.
The West End of Glasgow is home to a great selection of gyms and health clubs, so if you're living in Anniesland or Kelvindale you'll have every opportunity to enjoy a rewarding workout. If you'd rather exercise in the open air, it's worth noting that the highly impressive Kelvin Cycle Way passes through Kelvindale. It links up with the pathways of the Forth and Clyde Canal, giving you some wonderful views.
When you have such a historic and iconic city within easy reach, you'll want to explore central Glasgow on a regular basis, especially when the public transport network is such an accessible one. The excellent Subway network is ideal for getting around in the heart of the city, and there are stations nearby in Hillhead, Kelvinhall and Partick, all of which lie to the east of Kelvindale.

There is an excellent selection of property types to choose from in the area. The options include a number of traditional Glasgow tenement buildings as well as plenty of detached and semi-detached houses which were built during the expansion of the West End in the 1920s and 1930s. If you prefer something that's a little more contemporary, you'll find several new developments throughout the district.
If you're a parent and you're looking for houses to rent in Glasgow which are close to high quality schools, Kelvindale could be the ideal location for your search. Kelvindale Primary in Dorchester Place provides education for the younger pupils here, while secondary options include Hyndland Secondary, Notre Dame High School and, to the east, Hillhead High School.
The city is close by when you live in Kelvindale, but it's important to remember that a number of excellent green spaces are always within easy reach. Just to the north of the neighbourhood you'll find Dawsholm Park, an attractive 33-hectare oasis which is particularly popular with birdwatchers and nature lovers. Victoria Park is to the south-west and the famous Glasgow Botanic Gardens are just east of Kelvindale.
A comprehensive selection of healthcare facilities is open to local residents, including a doctor's surgery in Hyndland Road, Anniesland Medical Practice in Munro Place and the Glasgow West Medical Practice in Dumbarton Road. Several hospitals are within easy reach, including Gartnavel General in Great Western Road, which is within walking distance for many.
This area of the city is home to a number of excellent landmarks and tourist attractions, so there is always something to do if you live here. Just to the south of Kelvindale you'll find the much-loved Riverside Museum, home of the Glasgow Museum of Transport. Be sure to visit the Tall Ship at Riverside, the home of the Glenlee, which was built nearby on the Clyde.
