Living in Gorbals
Gorbals, once synonymous with overcrowding and urban deprivation, is now a much sought-after neighbourhood that has undergone a great deal of redevelopment over the years. Located on the southern banks of the Clyde, it's a thriving community that is conveniently close to the centre of Glasgow. No wonder more and more people are looking for property to rent in Gorbals these days.
If you work in the city centre, you can be at your desk in no time and with a minimum of fuss if you live here. For some local residents, the commute involves a short, pleasant walk across one of the River Clyde bridges before starting their day. In a similar vein, the nightlife of this exciting city is so close you can almost feel the buzz as soon as you walk through your front door.
The nearest Subway station to Gorbals is Bridge Street, which is located in nearby Laurieston. From here, all of central Glasgow is within easy reach. While there is no overground railway station in Gorbals, there are stations nearby, including several to the south. To the north just across the river you will find Argyle Street station, while Glasgow Central terminus is only around a mile away.
The epicentre of a wonderful city is right on the doorstep
The proximity of the centre of Glasgow makes Gorbals an ideal location for those who seek a little culture at the weekend. There are a great many houses to rent in Glasgow, of course, but few are likely to be so conveniently located for landmarks such as the Gallery of Modern Art, the Glasgow Police Museum and the celebrated Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
If your hunger pangs are kicking in, there are a number of excellent restaurants and takeaways to be found here, so there's no need to miss out. Gorbals is also home to some excellent pubs and bars. Needless to say, a short walk across the river will take you to some of the most exciting eateries and watering holes in central Glasgow, so you'll have plenty of choice when the evenings come around.
With the University of Glasgow's main Gilmorehill Campus just three miles away, Gorbals is understandably popular with students. Classes are easy to get to, there's an exciting nightlife right on the doorstep and the rental costs are relatively low. On a sunny day, a walk to class will take you along and across the River Clyde and through the highly picturesque Kelvingrove Park.
Excellent healthcare facilities for all
Glasgow is home to a number of fine medical practices, including Gorbals Health Centre, which is to be found in Pine Place. Local hospitals include Glasgow Royal Infirmary, the New Victoria Hospital and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, all of which are within a radius of around four miles from the centre of Gorbals.
Gorbals is well situated for football fans, with both Rangers FC to the west and Celtic FC to the east. Both are less than three miles from here, and Hampden Park, the home of the Scottish national team, is even closer to the south. If you prefer playing to watching, there are some excellent facilities on offer just across the river at the Glasgow Green Football Centre.
There is an enormous selection of flats to rent in Glasgow, and for some people the choice of neighbourhood will depend on the proximity of parks, gardens and open spaces. Gorbals is close to a number of opportunities to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, including the excellent Glasgow Green and Richmond Park. The two are connected by a footbridge across the River Clyde.
Anyone who's living in Crosshill, Govanhill or Gorbals will know just how easy it is to get from A to B in Glasgow, and how pleasant the local way of life can be. This part of the city has become increasingly popular in recent years, and it's a trend that looks set to continue.
