Living in Cathcart

Once an ancient parish that overlapped the county borders of Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire, the south Glasgow suburb of Cathcart takes its name from the wealthy and powerful Cathcart family. These days, it's home to a wide selection of amenities and a pleasant atmosphere that has made it a magnet for young and old alike.

While it retains a certain village-esque feel, its proximity to the city centre has made Cathcart popular with commuters who have been on the search for houses to rent in Glasgow. The centre of the city is just 20 minutes away by car and less than 25 minutes for those who like to cycle to work in the mornings. Scotland's motorway network can be accessed via the M74 at Rutherglen, which is just ten minutes from Cathcart.

The local railway station offers direct trains into Glasgow Central throughout the day, so the city centre can be reached in just 15 minutes. Cathcart station is located in Holmlea Road, close to White Cart Water. Kings Park station, to the north of Cathcart is also close by, and several bus routes go through the area.

Is this the ideal place to put down roots?

Parents of young children who are looking to relocate to Glasgow will be impressed by the variety and the standard of schools in Cathcart. There are a number of excellent restaurants and friendly bars to be found along Cathcart Road and Clarkson Road.

While the cost of renting in Glasgow as a whole has been rising steadily in recent years, overall prices in Cathcart and the surrounding area are still extremely affordable.
